“Your Throw Isn’t That Good Anymore, You Get Slow,” was Gavaskar’s “Doubtless” assessment of Rohit and Kohli’s return for the Twenty20 World Cup

Discussions on the likely comeback of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set to take center stage as the ICC released the schedule for the next T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies. The cricket world governing body released the schedule for the main event on Friday. Team India, together with their bitter rivals Pakistan and hosts the United States, are in Group A, with the other two teams being Canada and Ireland. India will take against Shaheen Shah Afridi’s green team in New York on June 9th, according to the roster.

The previous time India and Pakistan faced off in a T20 World Cup, fans saw a valiant display from Kohli that helped India win by four wickets. He hasn’t played for the nation in T20Is, however, since the team’s heartbreaking 2022 tournament elimination due to a 10 wicket loss to England in the semifinals. Rohit Sharma has also done so.

For the next T20 World Cup in the West, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar feels that Rohit and Kohli must play. The batting great said on Star Sports that the club would need to win the championship not only because of their hitting talent but also because of their leadership and fielding abilities.

“For the last 18 months, Virat Kohli has been playing really well. He performed well in the ODI World Cup as well. Therefore, his batting ability in limited-overs cricket should not be contested. The fact that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are still outstanding fielders is a major factor, Gavaskar said Star Sports.

When you’re 35 or 36 years old, your throw becomes less accurate and you tend to get slower. So, when establishing the field, there are arguments over where to keep you. These two are still excellent fielders, so that won’t be an issue. They will not only have experience in the locker room but also have an impact on the field. We’re not sure whether Rohit will be captain, but either the situation, that would undoubtedly help any leader,” he said.

After the South African trip is over, Team India will play three Twenty20 internationals against Afghanistan before turning its attention to five Test matches against England later this month.
